Well done & Growing Pains
What can I say.. Well Done!
We were able to attend and entertain over 150 people at the First Presb. Church of Jonesboro Saturday evening (Aug 2) and play our performance program for them, and while the Forth in the Forest event was the best we had sounded to date, I do believe we sounded even better last night (and looked better too).
The addition of Mr Pringle on the big drum really filled out the band's look and sound. Jaz.. you did sooo good, as did everyone else.
For those not able to attend, we had 5 pipes and 4 drums for a total of 9 players. Add to that, those who are as of yesterday students and we had 15 total students & members present.
Yesterday's practice, while not manditory for everyone, still had 13 people present, of that number; 5 - are brand new faces. Ladies and gentlemen, we are growing. If everyone that has been attending, as well as all the new faces from yesterday continue to show up, progress and get to performance level we have:
7 snares
2 tenors
1 bass
10 total drummers (of which, all but 2 are 18 years old, or under)
9 pipes
19 total pipers & drummers.
That puts the pressure on us pipers to not only recruit more pipers (can't have more drums than pipes.. that's just not right!) but for the pipers to kick it up a notch to be sure if not already on the pipes, to get there, and those with new pipes, to keep focusing on those fundamentals and learning the tunes so we can even out those head bangers.
Again, well done on the performance, well done on the recruiting. But don't relax, we can never celebrate our gains very long, or we risk losing them. Lets get, and keep working. make the best use of our hard work and good fortune.
We have Clanjamfry coming up, the Nov 1 Celtic Festival (both with competitions for those of you under 18), Then its time for holiday parades (start working on your stamina.. now!) Year end, and before you know it, it will be April and competition season again.
