Gold in Glasgow
Members of the Jonesboro Arkansas based Northeast Arkansas Caledonian Pipes and Drums continue to win prizes in solo competition around the region. This last weekend, 4 members traveled to Glasgow, KY for the annual Highland games and competitions held just outside Bowling Green. Among the prizes were a 4th place on the highland snare for 11 year old Danny Vaughn Jr of Hoxie, A first place gold medal, and 5th place for his father Danny Vaughn Sr on pipes and a first place gold and 3rd place Bronze for David Corbett of Alicia and Marion on pipes. Robert Gill, a public school teacher from Kennett also attended his 3rd solo competition and showing well. These results bring the total top 5 placings by members in contest to 7 just the last 2 weeks.
The band is now working on a program which they hope to perform 2 or more times for friends and family at a picnic during the Fourth in the Forrest celebration at Craighead Forrest. The band meets weekly at the First Presb. Church in Jonesboro, from 2-4pm and is always looking for new students and musicians. For more information see www.neacaledonians.com or call 870-886-6583.
