How busy have we been?
Just a quick update, since Labor day.
Competition: David attended the Glasgow Highland Games in Glasgow, KY along with the Wolf River pipes and Drums. In 4 solo competitions, he got 2 - 5th place finishes, and won the 6/8 March, Grade 5 Sr competition. The next competitions we'll have members at are the July 14-15th Grandfather Mtn Games in North Carolina & then the following weekend back at Lyon College in Batesville, AR.
Membership: We seem to be at a stable number of 4 pipers and 2 students at this time. One student is a young snare student, and one piping student.
Events: We successfully hosted our first "Piper & Drummers Gathering" with about 20 people showing up. There were pipers from 4 bands, and drummers from the Sgt W.K. Singleton Pipes and Drums out of Memphis. With a full piob played by Ken Adler (Lyon College), mock competition tunes by Robert Gill, Ken Adler, Danny Vaughn and David Corbett, we ended with the smallest massed band I'd ever seen ( 8 people total, members of 3 bands) and practiced starts & marching from ranks into a competition circle. Jimmy Bell & Ken also did a quick, impromptu lesson on tunining snares & bass drum.
Media Coverage: Between the pipers gathering, and a group of us setting up a tent at the "Fourth in the Forrest" at Craighead Forrest on July 4. We made the front page of the Jonesboro Sun, 2 times in 4 days! When's the last time someone did that, without drugs or violence being involved?
Coming Up:
Lyon College Competition
Next practice - Sunday the 8th, at Vaugh Bro's Barbershop
Next Gathering - Aug 5th at First Presb. Church.

Would like to interview one or more members of the NEA Caledonians for my weekly radio program "Music from the Isles." KASU-FM 91.9 Sundays @ 9:30 a.m. (also Saturdays at 5 a.m.) The program is recorded in advance, usually on Thursdays in KASU studios. I can do this over the phone with one person, or in the studio with a couple. I could also bring a portable digital recorder to one of your practices. David, I know you and your parents of course. And you played the pipes at our daughter's wedding, JUNE '05. I'm excited about this.
Email or call 972-3486 (ASU) or home 886-2854.
Looking forward to meeting other members of group.
