Back from the Red River Pipes and Drums workshop in Shreveport, LA

Well, over half the band was in Shreveport for the workshop.  2 of us as students and 2 as family members to enjoy the concert and ambiance of the city.  With instructors like Ken Eller, Angus McColl, Jim McGillivray, Jack Lee & Rob Crabtree, one would have to be in a coma to not learn something.

Topics I brought home this time include: Pulses, Choosing reeds, Band Setup, and more. No doubt Lisa left pumped as well.  Another thing which was hammered home, one absolutely MUST have the best instructor available to progress. Several times fingering mistakes and such were pointed out that I was making. 3 years of making the same mistake will take time to correct, and I'm trying to find an instructor for myself, whether 3 or 4 hours away, or even online with The Captain or John Cairns. We all need someone to keep us motivated and honest.

The website has been updated, and will continue to be updated. Of note we changed the tuition fees to $20/month to reflect that there will likely be at least one Sunday a month, when we aren't able to get together, simply because the Armory may be in use, or members will be out of town for clinics and solo competitions.  Also we've set up "packages" of student supplies.

The last practice was attended by KAIT, and we were featured on the 10pm newscast and on the webpage. Judging from the increase in hits to the website.. it was watched and at least a few people were curious.

This Sunday (Feb 25) have your comfy walking shoes on, we will be doing a bit of marching. We'll also go over the parade set, and 2 of the 3 tunes in the CMM set, likely go over the Akarit tune.

Oh, and I got our 5 matching Soutar chanters. Should have them reeded and ready to hand out. That should help on our tuning.

Other than that. Welcome any visitors, drive safe, and lets get this thing rolling!

David
